Meet Tom Pratt
Tom Pratt is a native Californian. Born in Pasadena and raised in Thousand Oaks, Tom has lived in California Senate District 8 since 2007.
Tom's parents worked hard so their 4 children could have more opportunities, like a college education. The youngest of 4, Tom went to California State University, Northridge (CSUN), where his professors mentored him and made a lifelong impact. He graduated in 1984 with a degree in Theatre Arts, and subsequently studied Art History at Santa Monica College, UCLA and in Paris, France.
Tom initially moved to Murphy's, in Calaveras County, in 2007 to care for his elderly mother, who was diagnosed with stage four brain cancer. He fell in love with the area, and with Kimberly; they married in 2009. Their 2 young sons, Tommy 6 years old, and Hutton, who is 4 attend Michelson Elementary School in Murphys.
Tom has worked in the insurance industry for over 20 years, specializing in fine arts insurance with such firms as FACE Insurance Services, Allen Insurance Associates, Kaye Fine Arts & Special Risks Group and Thomson and Pratt Insurance Associates.
Civic activities are important to Tom. He was elected President of the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Board of Education, was appointed to the Arts Commission for the City of Santa Monica as well as the Public Access Television Commission for Calaveras County.
Tom has served as a member of the Board of Directors for the following organizations: Dean's Council for the School of Arts at CSUN, Social & Public Art Resource Center (SPARC)and the Rotary Club. He is a member of California Lawyers for the Arts. Tom currently serves as an expert witness for art insurance related matters.
Understanding the difference between having opportunity, like a good education, and lacking it, Tom has never taken his good fortune for granted. These values inspired his successful run for Vallecito School Board. They motivate his run for State Senate today. He is determined to fight for the things that matter most: education, well-paying jobs, clean and reliable water, stable agriculture, affordable health care, and more. Tom understands and will effectively represent Rural California as your District 8 Senator.
Tom is a dedicated family man. He is involved in his community, and wants to represent you in Sacramento.
